Lockdown is the rising superstar of the Australian EDM scene. In his short career, he has already worked with the likes of Steve Aoki, Carnage and Uberjakd. He is fresh off his Asia tour and I got to sit down with the man behind the mask.
One of the first things you notice about the man behind the mask is his enthusiasm for what he does. Whether he is talking about making music or performing, you can tell that he is loving every second. His enthusiasm is infectious, and it's that same enthusiasm that carries over on to the stage and it makes him so captivating to watch. His unique style of house undertones and heavy-hitting drops resembles one of his idols, Timmy Trumpet, this is what i believe makes LOCKDOWN a force to be reckoned with.
Come with me as we step behind the decks with LOCKDOWN
BTD - What made you wear a mask and why that mask?
LD -I wanted my performances and music to do the talking for me. As for this mask, if I am honest it was the only one that was handy and I wanted to play shows ASAP.
BTD - Your current dance floor killer is Helpless which hit number 1 on the Beatport charts. How does that feel and how did you achieve that?
LD - It was a grind but it all paid off and it feels amazing, a lot of hard work both in the studio and promoting the track myself went into getting it to number 1.
BTD - What’s your creative process when you sit down to make a track like Helpless?
LD - It all comes from one idea and that idea could be anything from a breakdown to a melody. With Helpless I wanted something with my voice in it and after many hours in the studio, Helpless was born.
BTD - Whom would you say are your biggest musical influences?
LD - Oh, that's a hard one as I am influenced by so many artists from different genres however I would have to go with my Aussie brothers. Will Sparks, Timmy Trumpet and Uberjakd.
BTD - Beatport classes your track as Electro House, what genre would you say you play?
LD - I have been asked this a few times, it is always so hard to describe as I try not to stick to a "genre" instead I just try to play in the moment to whatever crowd is in front of me.
BTD - You have already worked with some huge names, including Aoki and Carnage. What collaborations are on the horizon for you?
LD - I have just finished up a project with Uberjakd that is dropping soon and i have a huge one on the horizon that I can not talk about yet.
BTD -Who is your dream collaboration?
LD - Honestly, it could be the one I have done that I can not talk about yet.
BTD - You are about to embark on another international tour, what sort of preparation will you be doing leading up to the tour?
LD - Getting the music right is the most important thing to me, I would be nowhere without it and nailing the right music and the right amount of it.
BTD - What’s your dream stage to play on?
LD - Has to be Tomorrowland, EDC or Ultra
BTD - For our readers that have not seen you perform what can we expect from a Lockdown show?
LD - Extremely high energy, pounding bass lines and heavy drops. I challenge you not to get up and dance.
BTD - What's coming up for you?
LD - I have a busy few months ahead. I have this massive collaboration coming out, I am touring and I am heading to ADE with Uberjakd.
BTD - We ask all our artists the same closing question. What is the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks?
LD - Oh man, Ummm, Once at a club show I was playing the whole dance floor turned into a fight. Next thing I know the whole place was empty as they kicked everyone out. hahaha

Chatting with Lockdown was a real breath of fresh air. He had no ego and no agenda when we spoke. He spoke from the heart and his passion for his craft really showed through. I think we will be seeing LOCKDOWN on the Tomorrowland main stage soon enough.
