With a mind for the melodic drive of techno and deep moods, Made in Paris remains in a league of her own. Noted by copious media and industry tastemakers as one of the country's most impressionable underground DJ’s, producers and label curators.

Paris has recently returned home to Sydney after her tour in Europe, where she represented Australia during Oceania Electronic as part of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). Since being home she has been busy with her label; Upon Access, released her new track ‘Pursuit’ which is already making its way up the charts, and has performed a guest mix on Triple J radio. Paris is set to perform in Australia this summer at festivals such as Beyond the Valley, Lost Paradise, and Wildlands.

In this interview, we talk about her upcoming shows, remix work, her new track ‘Pursuit’, Amsterdam Dance Event, and more!

Come with me as I step behind the decks with Made In Paris

You’re about to play at some Australian festivals, You must be pretty excited to play to a home crowd again. What is the best thing about playing at these festivals?

Summer in Aus is a very happy time for most people and you can really feel that energy spreading around the festivals. Feeding off this energy from the crowd, it makes these shows really enjoyable and I dare say other artists would have to agree!

As a young female artist from Sydney, you emerged into the local scene in 2012 – in Just 7 years you have burst into the global scene. It looks like you’re only just getting warmed up! What can we expect to see from Made In Paris in the next 12 months?

The next 12 months are very important for me. I'm currently working on a new record for my label Upon Access as well as pushing music offshore. Also lot of touring plans are underway TBA!

Were there any challenges you faced breaking into the underground scene, both in Australia and overseas? Proving yourself in the underground scene takes a lot of time. Most people in it are quite skeptical so I found that persistence and patience is key.

You are considered to be in a league of your own, with your fusion of melodic drive and deep Techno. How did you go about defining and refining your sound?

It took some time to find the sound I wanted to pursue in the studio. I knew I was drawn to more darker types of music like Techno but combining more deep elements and a proggy structure over time rounded out what I wanted to push.

You have been showcasing your new track ‘Pursuit’ (out now on - Of Leisure) in Berlin, Amsterdam, London & Melbourne before it’s an official release. Where did you play it first? And why?

Playing Pursuit for the first time in Melbourne before Stephan Bodzin was such a treat. I had just gotten the master back and was so happy with the response from the crowd. Hit me right in the feels.

In September your remix of Rüfüs Du Sol’s ‘Another life’ Was released on the Solace Remix album. Taking on this project from fellow Sydneysiders, what were the most important elements of the original track that you decided to work with?

Tyrone's vocals are just bliss and was something I wanted to nurture throughout the remix. Their synth work is also so amazing in their productions and I decided to keep this great arpeggiator of theirs running throughout the track. I was so honoured to be apart of the remix pack!

Earlier this year you joined the Anjuna-family with a remix of Luttrell’s ‘Windowscene’. You then featured on episode 255 of the Anjunadeep radio show. Tell us the feeling you had when you were asked to do a mix for the Anjunadeep edition. Big opportunities like these can seem so surreal. Anjunadeep is recognised world-wide and it’s great to share my music with such a big audience!

In 2016 you founded your own label - Upon Access. What did you hope to accomplish in running your own independent label? The label is very special to me. Giving myself a platform to express my sound and others with no limitations. We have some great releases coming up so be sure to keep an eye out :)

Let’s talk about Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) – What was it like to represent Australia at Oceania Electronic?

It was very exciting to be in Amsterdam for the first time. The energy in the city that week for ADE was insane! It was great to be over there representing Aus.

And what was your favourite part about ADE as a whole? Connecting with so many like-minded people who are just as passionate about music as me.

We ask this to all our guests. What is the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks? Well, this isn't so much crazy but I had a guy come up to me after a show with his dad and said "This is my dad, he's your biggest fan and made me come tonight with him to watch you" AMAZING!
