MaRLo has been at the pinnacle of Australian dance music for over a decade and has played the world’s biggest stages including Tomorrowland Mainstage this year. He is fresh from his own SOLD out event "Altitude", and is now gearing up for a HUGE Aussie summer being kicked off with Festival X!!

Come with us as we step behind the decks with MaRLo.

BTD - Congratulations on the completion of the Altitude 2019 tour. They described it as being your biggest one yet. What do you think of that comment??

MaRLo - Yeah absolutely true, Every Altitude we have ever done anywhere in the world has sold out... but this year was different! Melbourne and Sydney sold out in record time, so quickly in fact. We hadn't even spent our marketing budget yet! So we just put it all into extra production. The shows were truly amazing, and next year will be even bigger and better. We are already planning for it.
BTD - With current legislation around festivals and events in Australia (mainly NSW), is it difficult to plan these large-scale events like Altitude?

MaRLo - We just planned ahead, and hoped that we wouldn't have any issues. We figured that our track record over the past 4 years of running Altitude shows is so good with no incidents what-so-ever that we would not have any issues. We were right, all ran smoothly, with no issues or interruption. So we are very thankful for that.

BTD - What does the Australian Trance community mean to you?

MaRLo - Australia is very lucky with the amount and quality of events we get. The Aussie Trance community is strong, and I have nothing but love for them.

BTD - How do you prepare for your sets? And what do you do before you get on stage?

MaRLo - I like to kind of get in the zone and be alone for a while. I sort of reflect on the past, and visualise what I want to happen, and just kind of get focused. I want to give my absolute best and all I have every single show I do. I want each person that's there to have a good time.
BTD - Let’s talk about your week 1 2019 Tomorrowland main stage set. Can you explain the feeling you had that day?

MaRLo - It was absolutely incredible, I mean, MAINSTAGE Tomorrowland!!! It was mind-blowing. I was nervous and super excited.
BTD - We were there supporting you at Tomorrowland week 1, what was it like seeing/knowing a large group of Australian’s had travelled all the way to Belgium to support you?

MaRLo - Honestly, when I first saw the group photo with all the Aussie flags, knowing you were all coming to support me that day, brought a tear to my eye. It's incredible to feel that sort of love and support. I just remember so clearly at the start of my career playing to absolutely no one, and no one caring at all. It's amazing to see the changes over the years.
BTD - You’ve come a long way from the local gigs in Sydney and Melbourne to now playing your own shows and main stage performances all around the world. What can fans expect in the future?

MaRLo - Keep doing what I love to do; making music and performances. Altitude 2020 will be absolutely insane, and I have loads of new tunes coming up.
BTD - We ask the same closing question to all our guests. What's the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks?

MaRLo - Disappointingly, nothing beyond the standard drunk guy, Blow up doll, or topless girl to be honest.

The honesty and openness of MaRLo’s answers were not only refreshing but a little surprising. He is constantly looking for inspiration and to push the boundaries of himself and his music. He is an inspiration and an idol to so many fans and DJs alike.
