Meduza have spent the best part of 2019 in being the driving force behind bringing house music back to radio hits, and what a year 2019 has been for the trio from Milan.

After their signing at ADE in 2018, the trio, Luca, Simone and Mattia, released their first hit song "Piece Of Your Heart", which climbed the charts in a monstrous fashion, and quickly became the festival anthem across the American and European circuit. With close to 400 million Spotify plays, Piece of Your Heart cemented that Meduza had big expectations to fill with their follow up track, and what an absolute track their follow up single to POYH is.

Meduza returned to our radios in October, with their second hit single "Lose Control", a fantastic blend of electronic-pop melody, paired with relatable vocals from UK's Becky Hill.

We had the opportunity chat with Mattia, to get to know one of the world's most on demand talents ahead of their debut Australian shows in January a part of the FOMO festival tour.

Come with me as we step Behind The Decks with Meduza.

Piece Of Your Heart” has amounted to so much success since its release, did you guys ever think it’s take off would reach this level of exposure?

When we made Piece Of Your Heart, we never made it with the thought of being successful. We made it because we felt it was truly our sound and that we we’re very proud to release. The success of it just solidifies how we feel about the music, we were just enjoying making house music.

You guys have broken into the scene so quickly, especially here in Australia. Can you tell us about each of your histories, and how you all teamed up to form Meduza?

Luca and Simone started working together almost 10 years ago on some projects, and then I met them some years later. We worked on a few projects over the years, but the Meduza project formed when we were in the studio working on tracks like Piece of Your Heart.

Having the three of you a part of one team, can you describe the sound each of you brings to Meduza?

We all bring ideas when we write new songs. After that in the process, I work more on the structure and arrangement, Simon on the melody and Luke on the mix master and all the sounds we use. Together, we create that true Meduza sound.

Most recently, you have released your latest track “Lose Control”, was this track always considered the follow up track to “Piece of Your Heart”?

We made Lose Control shortly after Piece of Your Heart came out – we loved the vibe of the track and we knew that when we made it this HAD to be the one to follow POYH.

Lose Control” sees you work alongside Goodboys for a second time, can you tell us what keeps drawing yourselves back together?

The chemistry. We really enjoy working together on music and it comes naturally when we’re in writing sessions. We’re big believers in following what feels right.

Talented, and well-known female vocalist Becky Hill also features on “Lose Control”, what was it that drew her to your track?

We had a session with Becky, she brought the verse and pre-chorus, we already had chorus and backing track before. We complimented each other well, her voice is really great for the track.

With two hit singles in the international chats, and a following that’s only growing, what can we anticipate to see from Meduza in the foreseeable future?

Well, lots and lots of touring for now, and at the start of Nov we have another remix coming! We also have some studio time for the 3rd and 4th singles which are coming together, plus a few club records on various labels we absolutely love. We are super excited for the coming 12 months, and cannot wait to release more music for everyone to enjoy!

Now we’re dying to know, as there are so many out there; what is yours/each of you favourite remixes to “Piece Of Your Heart?”

All the remixes are great and definitely bring a new vibe to the record! However I think we all agree Joris Voorn remix is the one. Joris absolutely killed it, the atmospheric style of his music is so subtle and warm…..

Our team travels from Australia to international festival annually, which festival/venue/location do you guys dream of playing at one day.

Coachella for one, EDC Las Vegas for another.

You are here in Australia in January, a part of the FOMO tour. How many interactions have you guys had with Australian crowds/fan? What are you most excited about touring down under?

None of us have ever been to Australia before! I have a few friends which have DJ’d down there and they told me the crowed went absolutely crazy every time they played our tracks.

I’ve heard how beautiful Australia is as well, really looking forward to seeing some of the sights too!

And finally, we ask the same closing question to all our guests. What's the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks?

I was playing in a festival and the DJ who was playing after me was literally next to me for 40 minutes setting up his equipment on my CDJs while I was trying to play my set. Only in my way a "little" bit, who does that?!

Tickets to FOMO are still available Australia-wide, if you still need to lock a ticket in, be sure to jump on here to grab yours!
