NEELIX

WE SAT DOWN WITH NEELIX AFTER HIS MAINSTAGE SET AT ELECTRIC LOVE!
He had some very interesting views that the NSW government should listen to!
Fresh off the mainstage at Electric Love I managed to grab Neelix for a quick 5-minute interview and I must say he was a pleasure to talk to!
This was my first time ever seeing him and it was an energetic and captivating set that had the whole crowd going crazy! It was also quite clear that while he is behind the decks he enjoys himself and this vibe rubbed off on the crowd 100%!
Here’s what he had to say!
Cale: I won't lie, this was my first time seeing you and I had an awesome time. First question is what genre do you consider yourself to fall under; you have the trance elements but could also be core.
Neelix: “when I started producing in 2001 I was very Psy- Trance, but then I thought it was a little to stressy and too much energy and I wanted their to be less energy and then I made it a little more poppy. But I don’t think this is a real genre, but if it is anything it would be progressive trance!”
At this point of the interview Neelix gave me a great insight into the way some countries are restricting festivals. I mentioned to him before the interview that here at Behind The Decks we are trying to show the positives of festivals rather the negatives that Australian media mostly portray.
Neelix: “ I have something to say on your topic before we continue, I actually wrote a column in Germany about rhythm music and what it actually does to you. The power of rhythm music is actually in a way dangerous because people when they start dancing to the rhythm, they feel very good and its like meditation because in this moment they have no problems. These people feel much better after listening to this music and they can work good and feel good . If you take this feeling away from them you will have a serious issue. There are countries that are still not allowing these types of festivals to occur or let people dance to this music and it honestly makes me quite sad because it’s a natural reaction to this music and it makes you happy.”
I then talked about how I believe exactly what he just said is what is happening in NSW at the moment. He continued with some very interesting points.
Neelix: “If you want to be understood you need to understand them. They (the government) have a point of view as well and yes they are right, there are things going on that probably aren’t good, but you cannot take everything away or these festivals away, you must have trust in the people and see the benefits of these kind meditation. So I think it’s a really important thing that shouldn’t be taken away from people.”
I then asked him what was the craziest thing he has seen behind the decks and boy did he have a good response!
Neelix: “I’ve had the dance floor go empty twice! The first time was because there was a bushfire behind me and I wasn’t aware! The 2nd time a cop pulled a gun out and hit someone with it because he was in trouble but everyone saw that and ran away, I think it was in Mexico!”
That concluded the interview and I just want to thank Neelix for taking the time to speak to us. It was honestly a pleasure and his views on the industry we found very interesting!
