The Stafford Brothers have been lighting up dance floors all over the world for over 2 decades. They have had a massive rise to fame from playing their local club Monastery (which no longer exists) in Brisbane to now calling the clubs of LA home. The boys are some of the early pioneers of Australian dance music and we got to sit own for a chat.

Come with me as we step Behind The Decks with The Stafford Brothers

I think you guys have one of the best stories from humble beginnings, to playing and headlining Australian festival circuit, and having a show on MTV. How does it feel to be where you are today?

We’ve had so many good times over the years; we’ve met so many people, seen so many places. It feels great to have an accomplished a lot and had fun doing it!

I remember seeing you guys play years ago on the festival circuit here in Adelaide and you absolutely blew the roof off every time, do you miss the old festival days we had in Australia?

Some of our best times were at festivals in Australia, as our crowds go the craziest. I can see a resurgence coming back to festivals as it always goes in cycles between the clubs and festivals. Australia needs to stop imposing so many rules and laws - let us have fun!

Any chance we will see you guys touring down under any time soon?

We’ll be back Dec/Jan in Australia.

Now residing in LA, what do you miss most about home?

Trish the Dish our mum’s cooking and spending time with family/friends. We live across from the beach when we’re home, so waking up and jumping in the water is a great way to start the day! Our food and coffee is epic in Oz

In 2012, Fox8 aired your 6-part series "The Stafford Brothers" while you were on tour in Europe. Having toured now for 7 years, does it get any easier? Or do you guys feel like seasoned pros these days?

The travel to the gig is more work than when we’re actually dj’ing. The travel in America is harder than Australia though. Traffic/flights oversold or delayed, security check whereas the airports and travel in Australia are a breeze... but some reason Australia have more crying babies on planes. Travel enough to get that platinum status with the airlines, get into the lounges and it makes it all a lot easier.  We’ve got it all figured out for sure!

Speaking of The Stafford Brothers show, Timmy Trumpet featured in it, you guys have both a professional and personal relationship. You boys even opened for him at Cavo (Mykonos) last year! Explain that feeling of not only watching but being able to support a friend and colleague of the industry.

It’s amazing. We’ve played together from his beginnings and to see what Timmy has achieved as an artist is phenomenal. Number 13 in the world! That’s huge! Being able to celebrate that working together and as mates is something special.

Everyone in our office has had a laugh at the Car Chronicles that you’ve been releasing on your socials this year. We have seen James Corben release Caraoke, as well as Mitch and Dylan Orval,  play numerous car pranks when filming Angry Dad videos, run us through the concept behind filming these car rides and the hilarious topics you guys chat about.

This idea actually came from us not wanting to film ourselves from our phone and record every minute of our lives. I find that when we record ourselves on our phones it’s forced or fake a lot of the time, but in the car it's whatever happens and that’s what you’ll see. This was our way of putting out content and a look into our lives. But shout-out to Jesse our video editor, as he makes them wayyyy better with the cutaways!

Congratulations on your latest hit "Canto"; a remastered classic with a very infectious lyric. What drew you guys to taking on the iconic track and releasing it with your own sound?

We wanted to re-release it and went searching who owned the rights to the vocal. It was a long process to clearing the rights, getting the original vocals and adding our take on it. It’s our first song out on Spinnin Records, so it was amazing to have their support. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the music video to Canto but check it out. Stafford Brother Dj ants and an animated ant party!

And finally, a question we ask all our guests; what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen from Behind the Decks?

Looking out into the crowd and seeing our dad with a girl on his shoulders and then does a shoey with mum cheering him on; GREAT parents!!!
