Since the last time I caught up with the boys, the back end of 2019 was a huge year for the Sunset Bros; with the boys taking on a bigger tour schedule, their debut “We Are Sunset” show, and continue dominating the charts, 2020 is already shaping up to be one hell of a year for the Sydney duo.
I sat down with Adriano to chat about their successful 2019 and what they have coming up for a HUGE 2020
(spoiler, you won’t want to miss a part of the action!)
Come with me as I step Behind The Decks with the Sunset Bros
You just played “Lost City” - an under 18 show, how does playing an under 18’s show compare to playing an “of age show”?
We get the same feeling from the crowd, but I give the younger ones so much more respect as they are sober and just partying for the love of the music; they go hard!
From the look of your pictures, there was a heavy police presence there, was it over the top from your perspective?
I encourage the police presence, especially at an underage show. They are there to help keep the kids safe and they did a great job. The kids were going hard and they were pushing to the front rail and the cops did a great job keeping the kids on the rail safe.
The last time we sat down was ahead of your sell-out show “We Are Sunset”. How was that night and are there plans for another one in 2020?
Oh HELL yeah, we are going bigger and better than ever before. We love our fans and we want to step it up each year and deliver a product that is better and better. We are looking at putting on a large scale event this year at a yet to be disclosed location, the production is going to be next level!!
Festival X was a huge success across the country, how was the show for you boys and what is it like having the fans say you had the “best set of the weekend”.
WOW, I am lost for words! It means so much to us to be told that, that day was crazy. I often speak about the connection an artist gets with a crowd and that being our home crowd was something so special. The whole stage had crazy energy and I think everyone could feel it, we just feed off that and kept pushing harder and harder and the crowd kept raising the energy level each time so we lifted pushed it harder.
Congrats on your remix of “No Effect” getting 1 million streams on Spotify, what attracted you to do the remix of Hooligan Hefs?
He has been making a lot of moves in the scene lately and the label reached out to us about a remix and we thought why not. We love progressing the Australian music scene and to be able to do something a little different for us was great.
You spent some time in the studio with Ben Nicky while he was here for Transmission, and even took the stage with him. What is going to come out of that?
Ben is a good friend and we spent a lot of time together while he was here, we have been trying to find a balance of both our styles and we think we have found it. It is going to be a MONSTER club banger and we are all really excited to release it.
Will we hear it at the upcoming Marquee show?
Damn right!!
You have Ultra Australia coming up and you are headlining the UMF radio stage. What can people who have not seen you before expect from your show?
It is going to be one F-ing party hahaha, we never pre-plan our set, as we think it takes away from the experience for both us and our fans. However, I can tell you we are loaded with new tunes as well as our old classics and we even have a special guest (Female).
You have just announced that you will be returning to Mykonos this year, what keeps you going back? Can you give us some insight as to when you will be playing?
We can not wait to hit the islands again! This year we will be heading to Far Out Beach Club, Cavo and Tropicana to party. It’s the hospitality of the Greeks that keeps us going back year after year. It’s just that’s so special - they treat you like family and the crowds there are always insane. There is something so special about the Greek Islands and they hold a special place in our hearts.
A lot of our audience is heading to Europe this summer and will be seeing you in Mykonos, do you have any other European dates you can let us in on?
We have a bit in the works still, but I can tell you that we have UK, Ibiza and other cities in Spain on the list so far. We are hoping for a few more locations and dates as soon as we know more we will let you know.
We are still in the early days of 2020, what goals are you hoping to achieve this year?
Most of this year is going to be dedicated to making new music, we are in the process of finishing our new studio, which has been a huge job and a full new fit-out. Once we finish we will be locking ourselves away and finishing a bunch of tracks so we have fresh music for the European Summer.
Do I sense a new Sunset Bros EP or Album in the works?
Man, we have like 20 tracks sitting there, we just need to find the right finishing touches and work out a release time but maybe….. hahaha!
You have just announced your Marquee show “Unfinished Business” how is that show going to compare to a show like Ultra this weekend?
Marquee is far more intimate and really in your face; I often jump out in the crowd and party with everyone or we end up out with some of the crowd haha! It has happened before! The interaction between us and the crowd is on another level.
You have already answered “What’s the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks” so, what’s your favourite dance move while behind the decks? Are you more of an “Avicii” with one hand in the air or the Jesus Pose?
Hahaha, I am definitely the Jesus pose, but both Glenn and I get the 1 arm fist pump going. I have to have my left hand up and Glenn has his right arm up. I am all about being symmetrical hahaha
After chatting with Adriano, it seems that the Sunset Bros are set for a HUGE 2020! If you are heading to Ultra Sydney this weekend, make sure you see them or get your self to Marquee Sydney for one HELL OF A PARTY by clicking here, or use BTDECKS at the checkout of any Marquee Sydney Show!
