Timmy Trumpet is one of the hardest working artists on the festival/ Dj scene at the moment, night after night giving more than 100% to his fans. We've seen Timmy go from playing pubs, clubs and being on stage blasting his trumpet with the Stafford Brother to the global superstar he is now!
From the little kid at band camp to running his own stage at Tomorrowland here is a couple of things we got to talk about.
Come with us as we step Behind The Decks with Timmy "Mother Fucking Trumpet
How does it feel going from playing in pubs & clubs all around Australia to now hosting a stage at Tomorrowland?
Surreal! I never thought I would make it this far but I have given it my all along the way. Hard work pays off but I’m far from done yet.
Your stage presence is second to none is it easy to say that your love for this is still as strong as it was from when you started?
STRONGER. I draw my energy and inspiration from the crowd and I give it straight back to them just how they like it. Every show I play I’m just as excited as my very first gig.
You hit a new level when you started touring like an old school rock band town after town night after night. Whose idea was it for you to go down that road?
I love playing my music. When I’m on stage there’s nowhere on earth I would rather be. It’s what it’s all about and every time I have a few days off I can’t wait to get back on stage.
How much of your global success do you attribute to your gruelling touring?
A lot. It’s the best marketing outlet available. The more you play, the more fresh faces are introduced to your music. It’s a huge part of every DJ’s success.
How do you keep your mental and physical health in peak condition while on the road?
I try to stay focused on the things that are important to me and I surround myself with good people. Travelling can be hard but I’m not about to complain about something that truly is a blessing. I’m very fortunate to be able to see every corner of the globe and I’ll be forever grateful.
You are classically trained musician, winning scholarships at a young age, does it get to you when people say you just get up and press play? Ignoring the amount of effort in producing, reading the crowd etc?
I don’t let what people might say effect how I think about the things I love. My advice to anyone is that they shouldn’t either. If you are doing what you love, you’re winning.
We have a tomorrowland group with near on 9000 Australian members, most of who are heading over this year, what message do you have for us about what we can expect this year?
I can’t f#king wait!! I love seeing those Aussie flags out in the crowd. Nothing makes me
prouder. I’ve been working on my set for Tomorrowland for a while now and I can say it’s shaping up nicely. Expect chaos because that’s what I’m bringing!
Finally, what's the craziest thing you have seen from behind the decks?
I still can’t get over that feeling when I look out at thousands of people singing the words to one of my songs. To me that is crazy! I’m still that kid from Western Sydney who went to band camp and it amazes me that I can be on the other side of the world in a country that doesn’t speak English and they know every single word.
