A few weeks ago we brought you an emerging artist coming out of Melbourne, SCAR. With his scary mask and deep sounds, we pegged him as one to watch out for. Staying true to our predictions, SCAR is back on the remix train, teaming up with Colin Hunnerz to unleash a bootleg of the absolute classic ‘Infinity’ by Guru Josh.
For those who may not know this track, it was released on my birthday in 1989 and has been used by DJs around the world ever since. It is one that takes me back to my teenage years when I first was getting into dance music and goes down as one of the greats. So what has SCAR done to remake this epic track, let’s find out!
The track starts off with a heavy kick and at first glance, the linkage between this bootleg and the original ‘Infinity’ was not immediately visible. As it winds into the beat, you are then met with the classic Infinity lyrics, and as soon as I heard them all of my memories came rushing back. The track has been sped up with the BPM sitting a lot higher than the original. The track contains well-placed synths throughout that showcase both hardstyle and minimal sounds. As it progresses you get the backing track of the original, with waves of the hardstyle and minimal sounds intertwining making this track something completely outside the box.
Over the years there have been many remakes of this acid house track, including some by Guru Josh himself. With that in mind, I have yet to hear one that has the makings of a hardstyle beat and one thing this track shows is that you can venture into new waters. SCAR has done great to broaden the horizon of this track and showcase more of what we can expect from him as he progresses further into pumping out music.
