We go DEEP on TRANSMISSION 2020: ANOTHER DIMENSION

Updated: Nov 2, 2019

Transmission has become THE iconic trance music event around the globe, with an unmatched level of staging, lighting and overall production, it is a must-attend event for any electronic music fan. In 2020, Symbiotic will be bringing Transmission back to Australia with one of the best line ups we have ever seen. We go deep into the event, the artists and what to expect from Transmission Australia 2020.

Transmission was first held in Prague at the O2 Area in 2006, from the first show they stood head and shoulders above any other indoor festival before it. Since its conception, the event has now travelled to Slovakia, Germany, Thailand, China and Australia. Melbourne had the honour of hosting it for the first 2 events in 2016 and 2017. The event did not return to our shores in 2018, however, 2019 saw the return on the indoor mega, event this time being managed by Symbiotic.

Symbiotic is responsible for some of the biggest trance events Australia has seen in recent years. Transmission, Dreamstate, Atlantis, MaRLo’s Altitude Australia tour and the list goes on. Transmission has been coming to Australia since 2016 and we thank the trance GODS it did. Since 2016, we have seen some of the best trance acts on earth make the pilgrimage down under, huge trance icons including Vini Vici, Marcus Shultz, Sander Van Doorn and Ferry Corston.

The 2020 edition of Transmission Australia has been eagerly awaited. We all knew that we would have to wait for Dreamstate and Atlantis to conclude before we would hear any news, and boy, did we not have to wait long. As quickly as date and venue were announced, a quick progression of ticket sale date and one of the best line ups I have seen at any Transmission festival around the globe began to be announced. It seems that a lot of people agree with me, as 4,000 tickets have already been sold.

If you have not bought your ticket yet, maybe I can help you make your mind up.

Let's look at each artist that has been announced so far, the show that's coming our way and who else might be dropped on an already stacked line up.

WHAT A LINE UP we have so far.

Gareth Emery is an outstanding artist, producing some of the biggest trance tracks in recent years. He was voted as one of the top trance DJ's in the world by DJ Mag, reaching number 7 until he famously came out against the competition, saying the Top 100 is “nothing more than a popularity contest” and instead donated his marketing budget for the DJ Mag campaign to charity. His podcast is a constant performer and won multiple awards at both ADE & WMC. His mix of beautiful vocals and uplifting melodies will surely make Emery a must-see set! We can only hope he will bring some of his ICONIC "Laserface" show to Australian shores during his Transmission set.

Sneijder has been at the forefront of the modern tech trance movement, only mastering his skill as a producer in 2009. His debut track “The Phuture” has received HUGE support from a man he shares this same line up with; Gareth Emery. This will be the Irishman’s 2nd Transmission in Australia, last coming out in 2017. His unique mix of tech and trance makes him a massive draw and one that does not get an opportunity to come to Australia very often.

NWYR really are the new kids on the block, only being in the trance scene a few years. However, many people are still unaware that NWYR is in fact big room powerhouse; W&W. This is William & Ward's second time to Australia as NWYR, bringing their unique mix of trance and Dutch bigroom sound, and often mixing in some of their iconic W&W tracks to their NWYR sets. These two are known for going big and going hard from the 1st second!!

Ben Nicky is the bad boy of the trance world, playing harder than almost all trance genres and sub genres. He continually pushes the limits between hard trance and hardstyle, creating that whole new sub genre to his sound, happy hardcore, which makes for a set full of energy. Ben loves coming to Australia, and is one of the only DJ's in the world who comes out multiple times in a year. But I am sure his Transmission set will be something special, as he has not played a Transmission event since 2016, back when he played in Melbourne.

That rounds out phase 1 of the line-up, in my mind we will get 3 or 4 more artists. Giving us 8 to 12 hours of trance goodness.

(As I am writing this, my prediction came true)

Introducing the first artist announced for Phase 2 of the line-up:

Paul Van Dyk is an absolute trance GOD, and anyone that says any different has gone all Pete Tong. Paul last played Transmission in 2018 in Prague. He also is a annual regular to the Australian festival circuit, last coming down under at the beginning of the year for Electric Gardens. Now that he is officially on the line up, I really don't think I need to say much about Paul, He is a god and you must see him!!

MaRLo has to be at the top of this list; the man is killing it this year. Smashing his first ever Main stage set at Tomorrowland, Australia-wide sold out Altitude shows and dropping some of the best tracks of his career in 2019!! What's an Aussie edition of Transmission, without our top ranking trance DJ?!

Dash Berlin/Jeffrey Sutorius is an outside shot, but it would make sense. Dash Berlin was made up of 3 people, 2 off stage and 1 front man (Jeffrey). About a year ago they broke up sighting artistic differences, however, Jeffrey wanted to continue as Dash Berlin but the other two said he did not have the legal rights to. After an intense legal battle, Jeffrey won the rights and now is back as Dash Berlin. He is now on tour, getting the Dash Berlin name out there once more, so all the dashers out there keep your fingers crossed.

AVAO have been on a fire recently, and have just finished up playing both Dreamstate and Atlantis. One would think they are in the good books with Symbiotic and would be a great early act for this event.

Marcus Santoro would be our final pick for the line-up. The Melbourne boy has been KILLING it, delivering some absolute quality tracks and signing them to some heavy weight labels. Having opened for legends Above and Beyond, and flown to Dubai to play Tomorrowland Unite, if Marcus hasn't been on your radar, then you should definitely do some homework!

To accompany these trance heavy hitters, will be some of the most mind-blowing production seen anywhere on earth. Transmission has always set the bar for production, they are constantly pushing the boundaries of light and sound. Each year they step it up and each year we think they cannot take it to another level and yet they continually do.

For those wondering if we will get anything like what we see in Europe, the answer is YES!! Transmission, like so many other events and festival i.e. Ultra, are franchised so companies such as Symbiotic pick up the name and help bring the event to life. When they agree to take on the franchise, they agree to a long list of T&Cs, most importantly, upholding the brands high standard of sound and lighting. With that in mind buckle in as this years is going to be EPIC!!

With their themed artist video and animations, stunning artist introductions, amazing high-definition screens that reach high into the rafters, more lasers than you ever thought possible and to top it all off, enough pyrotechnics to make a pyromaniac cry, you are sure to get your money's worth!

With 4,000 tickets already sold, you will want to get in quick before it sells out!!
