EDC(ancelled)

April Fools! Well, sort of...

In times that have rocked the music and events industry harder than anything has ever come close to before, international EDM festival-goers hold hope that festivals such as EDC (Vegas) and Tomorrowland (Belgium) will still go ahead.

Festival-goers of Insomniac's most iconic festival, EDC Las Vegas, have patiently waited for a verdict if the festival will indeed go ahead, as other American festivals such as Coachella and Ultra Miami have been forced into postponement.

But we may not necessarily need to wait for Insomniac to make their formal announcement, with big-name artists such as Martin Garrix, W&W, David Guetta and Australia’s very own Timmy Trumpet already removing EDC from their online tour schedules.

We saw this same trend with artists hours before Ultra Miami announced they were looking at “options” for the event, as they would not be able to hold the annual festival, and Winter Music Conference set for March 2020.

Unless stated otherwise, EDC Las Vegas is set to take place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on May 15th-17th 2020. However, with artists removing the festival off their schedules, we can only assume that the US is looking to enforce an even longer lockdown period than what he has advised, twice now.

Originally President Donald Trump tweeted:

“We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself” and that the country will be “opened up” by mid-April.

However, just under a week after his original tweet, Trump backpedalled, announcing the Covid-19 lockdown and social distancing measures in place for the US will be extending, pushing the date out until at least 30th April.

With a death toll currently surpassing 3,800, and a projection of 100,000 to 200,000 deaths across the US, it only seems evident that the US does not yet have a hold on the virus outbreak, with the outcomes only becoming worse before they get better.

Even if the US announces they are lifting their restrictions currently in place, Aussies intending to travel to Vegas for the event (if by chance it goes head) won’t be able to leave the country, given we have both a domestic and international travel ban, which we all have to accept won’t be lifted within the next month.

Needless to say, EDC looks as though its May dates will be cancelled, or at the very least postponed to a later date. And as another festival bites the 2020 dust, all eyes move onto the worlds largest music festival, Tomorrowland, who at this stage is still locked to go ahead over its 2 weekends at the end of July. Both Dutch and Belgian governments set to look at lifting current Covid-19 enforcements June 1st, in a bid to #Savesummer.

As always, the moment we learn more, we will bring it straight to you guys.
