Although it feels like 2019’s announcement was only yesterday, Forbes has revealed their annual World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities for 2020, and some notable (and high earning) listings are held by artists within the dance music industry.
Boss-babe and Pop singer, Ariana Grande, was the first music artist to enter the USD$6.1 Billion combine income list, sitting at #17 after earning a whopping USD$72 Million. Following close by, American electronic duo responsible for chart-topping hits including ‘Closer’ and ‘Something Just Like This’, The Chainsmokers, took the 21st spot, earning USD$68 Million, half a million short of The Jonas Brothers in the 20th spot. The duo earned an increase of USD$22 Million since Forbes Highest-Paid DJ 2019 list. The dance-duo are currently residing in a social media hiatus to work on their upcoming album, #TCS4, after a hugely successful 2019 international tour schedule, seeing the boys not only play, but close out day 1 of Tomorrowland Mainstage, arguably the biggest mainstage in the world.
While the list is filled in between with high-profile celebrities known for their personalities in a field of careers including film, media and sporting, it's not too long before we reach #35, filled by Marshmello, America’s most favourite masked DJ, pulling in a juicy USD$56 million. Marshmello landed residency at Las Vegas’ KAOS Nightclub upon their reopening, for a whopping USD$60 million. Despite KAOS already being forced into closure and unable to fulfill their entire contract with Mello, it’s reported he still took home quite a hefty pay from the now terminated deal.
Casting our eye across the whole list, other well-respected music artists continue down the list, including Jay-Z at #42 and Rihanna in at #60. Towards the end of Forbes World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities for 2020 list, we find our girl Lady Gaga coming in at #87, earning USD$38 million. With the release of her eagerly awaited ‘Chromatica’ album last month, we can only hope to see Mother Monster climb the chart on the back of a very successful album release.
Notably absent from 2020’s list is Calvin Harris, who took the 95th spot in 2019. With the debut of his techno monniker, Love Regenerator, we anticipate that the artist responsible for some of the most iconic summer tracks, including ‘This Is What You Came For’ and ‘You Used To Hold Me’, will make his debut back into the 2021 list.
