Greece is reopening, and it wants Australians to visit

Written By Kylie Vesey

Recently the news broke that Greece will be reopening its borders just in time for the summer season to kick-off, oh what I would give right now to be on my favourite island, Ios, sipping a cocktail at FarOut Beach Club, listening to my favourite local DJs. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

Greece has been widely praised for its swift response to the pandemic and thus saw relatively low infection rates. Originally Greece welcomed back tourists on July 1st, but moved the date forward to June 15th due to the low infection rates (if any on some of the islands). This same date is still expected to have when international flights to Athens and Thessaloniki resume.

With these announcements, the Greek government recently made several pitches for Australian’s to visit, after it named Australia one of 29 countries deemed “safe to enter the country”.

Now that the restrictions are beginning to ease and Greece is allowing tourists to visit again, many of our much loved Aussie spots have voiced what Australian tourism means to them.

Far Out Beach Club, Ios.

This has to be the most well known Aussie hotspot not only for travellers, but artists as well. I have visited FarOut twice in the past two summers and not only do you get to see world-class acts up close and personal, but the staff also make you feel like you are at home. They are always ready to have a chat, share a drink or help you escape reality, all with a smile upon their faces. FarOut have taken to their social platforms promoting the reopening of the club, however with their COVID updates - they will be enforcing social distancing regulations and in regards to the acts, you will see more local talent performing, due to travel restrictions still in place for many artists around the world that would have been booked on the line-up, including our much loved Sunset Bros., who were due to perform this summer at FarOut. My thoughts have been with the team as they work to welcome back some sort of normal, having had 0 cases of COVID-19 on the island.

Cavo Paradiso, Mykonos.

If you are travelling to Mykonos, this is one club you need to visit. They have some of the biggest names in EDM playing, overlooking the stunning ocean, perched among a clifftop. With the next stages of reopening, they have been very quiet about what is to come. When we look at their website all of June and July have no information, whereas they have announced The Chainsmokers Full Moon Party on August 3rd. If we see any sort of international restrictions ease for Australia before this, I know where I will be buying a ticket to.

Ok, so I know what everyone is thinking and I am the same, this sounds nice Kylie but we cannot travel here! One can hold out hope that some sort of the back end of Euro summer may be saved for us, right? Who knows, with the information on how well Greece has handled the pandemic, and the fact some islands have had 0 cases, it might come to light that this may become one of our allowed travel spots. Let’s just wait and see.
