Don Diablo is a man of many talents, and we can now add comic book author to the repertoire.
It was announced in October that the Future House DJ was beginning the process of bringing his music Sci-Fi world into print-form, with the release of his comic book series Hexagon.
The Dutch DJ has spent the past year working with comic book publication house Impact Theory Comics, the same company Steve Aoki used for his comic book, to release a 5-part series based on Don’s childhood love of Sci-Fi and Star Wars.
The official synopsis of the comic reads:
It’s the 1980’s and all twelve-year-old Don wants to do, is play video games at the local arcade. Don’s father, however, refuses to let him play. Egged on by his friends and trying to impress a girl, Don sneaks out to join an all-night game-a-thon. Defying the odds (and on his first-quarter ever!), Don beats Crucible, a game long considered unbeatable. In an instant, his world is turned upside down when his victory triggers an alien invasion and sucks him into an intergalactic battle that has been raging for years… a battle his father was desperately trying to protect him from.
Partnered with one of the most notable Sci-Fi comic book masterminds, Michael Moreci, Don ensured that his comic book adventure was captivating for all age demographics.
He told fans at New York Comic-Con:
“What I love about Star Wars, Sci-Fi and comics is that it’s not just about the story, it’s about the underlying story, about how it brings people together”
After the initial phone call, CEO of Impact Theory, Tom Bilyeu, said it was Don’s love for Sci-FI and Star Wars that sealed the deal when it came to finding someone to collaborate with on the publishing.
Bilyeu mentioned he knew for sure they were going to create something amazing, with Don mentioning “I think when you write music, you write stories and lyrics and you come up with ideas for music videos. So it’s a similar process and I had this idea for a huge music video which would be a short film, but it was too expensive to produce. So it never really happened, but I had a draft in my head, and then I met Tom.”
The duo are already in talks of going further with the comic and possibly making it into a cartoon or movie - the ultimate goal for the journalist and film turned global DJ, but we will have to wait and see.
You can purchase the first edition of Hexagon from Impact Theory Comics website here, with 4 different cover options to choose from, including a rare cover variant, which only has 100 copies printed.
