As the global music industry faces many challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, many are still keeping the party alive.
With almost every music festival being cancelled, and a lot of countries going into lockdown mode, people are still finding a way to have fun and keep morale high. Citizens are turning to music in these dark times; DJs are performing special live stream sets and broadcasting on social media, producers are keeping busy in the studio and promising new music is on its way!
So what does this all look like?
Well, over the last few days we have seen an influx of viral videos being shared all over social media. Most notably, Italian citizens in lockdown throwing parties from their balconies, singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. With “social distancing” a thing in 2020, it’s nice to see communities still alive and coming together during these difficult times.
“Bringing the rave to your living room! Get connected, not infected” was a special message that Belgian underground club; Kompass Klub put out to the world on March 13th, after announcing the club would be closed until March 31st. The partnership of K NT XT, Tomorrowland, Live Nation, and Beatport saw a special “Lockdown Sessions: Live Stream” party, which included DJ sets from Charlotte De Witte, Enrico Sanguliano, Massimo Mephisto, and One Track Brain. This is another fine example of adapting, and using technology to connect the world to music.
With tours being cancelled and countries imposing travel bans, our favourite artists are going into hibernation and hitting the studio to bring fans fresh bangers to enjoy. During this crisis we have already been flooded with new music from Nicky Romero, Sick Individuals, Gareth Emery and more! With so many other producers such as Ferry Corsten, Oliver Heldens, and Martin Garrix all promising new music is on its way.
With an unprecedented amount of canceled shows and events, and even entire tours, live DJ sets are abundant on social media. Just scroll through Facebook or Instagram and we bet you’ll find something to entertain you during these difficult times. Let us remind you to stay safe in times of the COVID-19 outbreak and to take care of each other. Let’s all do our bit to fight against this virus from spreading so we can continue to celebrate life again when all this has passed.
