Love Dance Radio (LDR) is an Australian Dance Music collective and soon to be a community based online radio station. Avid dance music lover, Michael Smith from Sydney started LDR 4 years ago and decided to put his all into this venture, taking it from a small project and making it into a brand and a business. Michael hopes to change the landscape of how Australian’s listen to Dance music, and bring the country on par with Europe and USA – but he needs your help!
“The idea came from listening to all the big-name DJs such as Nicky Romero with Protocol Radio and my favourite radio station Raw Fm. So naturally I love dance music and wanted to be catchy hence the name today Love Dance Radio” Michael explains.
“I started LDR in 2016 as a personal project. The idea was to turn it into a mix series, podcast in some type of way just like the big DJs. I was willing to push it far enough to get my shows on to Raw FM … Fast forward to mid-2018 I attended Sydney DJ School and learnt a great deal about the industry with how hard it was to come through as a DJ or artist, and decided on instead of progressing my own music career, I would help other DJs and artists breakthrough the first barrier of being seen or heard and have done so ever since that day.”
Michael hopes to grow his audience, sponsorship, and build advertising into the platform and explains how he will take on a radio station format. “The online radio will be a mix between top 40 dance tracks, interviews, live shows either community run or live events running around Australia or the world. It will run like a normal radio would, but would have a community feel about it, from hearing your local artists' new tracks to what’s going on in the local nightlife”. Michael continued, “Internet radio has the flexibility to be able to be broadcast across the globe to gain more listeners, followers to help anyone who comes on the radio”.
But Michael and Love Dance Radio need your help! Michael has set up a Go Fund Me in anticipation of raising $2000 to kickstart his dream of an Australian based online radio station.
“The Go Fund Me is to help me get LDR into online radio to better support the community of talented DJs, Artists and events through exposure across Australia through their music, mixes and events getting radio plays, in return generating royalties which supports their music career. As well as this we also want to share the love of dance music with our community across Australia.”
