Dutch DJ superstar Martin Garrix is back, with the release of his very emotive track featuring Clinton Kane “Drown”.
This is the first release we have seen from Garrix in 2020, with December seeing the release of his EPIC track “Hold On” which was an absolute showstopper at his 2019 ADE show The Ether.
Following the release of “Hold On”, which saw quite high energy, “Drown” has a much more pop-type, mellow and warm feel, seeing it steer away from a little from those electric drop’s Garrix is famous for. Garrix once again shows us that he can ever so effortlessly switch from those festival anthems to pop-type tunes.
The lyrics in this track have a very personal feel, I was taken to a place where I instantly thought of people close to me, which is what Garrix typically is very, very good at doing.
The opening lines of this track “I've been trying to keep my distance but in an instant, you break me down, I know better than to want you but I succumb to you without a doubt” are a very emotional way to open a song. Could these lyrics be written for his now ex-girlfriend Charelle Schriek, who both parted ways in November 2019 after 3 years? My guess is yes!
Listening to this song, it initially gave me goosebumps all over. When singing along to the chorus I found myself getting emotional as you can feel the love, hurt and possibilities through this track, I may have even had a little tear up.
My prediction on this track is we will see Garrix close out with it at both his upcoming sets at Tomorrowland Winter and Ultra Music Festival Miami in March. It has some great potential to be remade, and with the way it instantly made me feel, it makes me want to be pit somewhere at mainstage hugging those close to me.
I am pumped to see where this tracks heads, as listeners have already taken to the YouTube video commenting “the drop has a very different feel”, “Garrix is experimenting with new sounds” and “The opening lyrics WOW”. Let us know your thoughts, I will be keeping a close eye on how this track progresses, Kylie signing off until the next Garrix release!
