This year the DJ world decided that Halloween was the perfect time to drop new tracks, and this was no exception for the Dutch superstar Martin Garrix!!! I mean, all those parties and events are a great way to get the exposure up, right?
When I heard Garrix was releasing a new track, it had me giddy like a schoolgirl, as there is not one thing that Garrix has created, that I have not loved; full disclaimer - I AM A FULL FAN GIRL!!!
Being the true fan girl I am, I'm going to give you an in depth review of the latest Garrix creation “Used To Love”, so strap in, here we go!!
This track sees Garrix enlist the vocals of a fellow up and coming Aussie Dean Lewis. Lewis debuted his first album in 2108 and since its release,it has reached number one and 7 x Platinum in Australia. We can only hope this new track becomes the slingshot Dean has been waiting for to take off in the international music scene.
When the track begins, my initial reaction is that my ears sprout; hearing Lewis’ vocals has somewhat a James Blunt type feel. Lewis’ voice is so mesmerizing and encapsulates you very early on. The track progresses quite slow and I was left wondering “is this going to have the makings of a Garrix festival banger or am I in for something new?”
1 minute in and I got what I was waiting for, an upbeat dance tune drop, and straight away I was HOOKED.
Getting deeper into the track, it is very clear this is a Garrix track, boasting that typical Garrix popping chime. I was taken by surprise at the raw emotion I felt throughout, this feels super personal and close to his heart and certainly pulled on my heart strings.
Many have already described the tracks lyrics "I'm running on emptiness" as very relatable, whilst others have said lyrics "We used to hold hands, now I dance alone” has brought tears to their eyes.
This is a much slower direction for Garrix, with very little drops and build ups compared to what I am used to hearing. It leaves me extremely excited for his next upcoming festival shows; Medusa Festival & Djakarta Warehouse Project to witness how he makes this a festival banger.
Have a listen and let us know what you think below! Is this the typical Garrix we all know, or are we seeing him branch into a new direction of a more deeper, relaxed vibe???
