Behind The Decks

Scary monster? Nah, that's just Melbourne hottest new DJ, Scar.

Written by Kylie Vesey.

One thing that I love more than anything is finding new talent within the DJ community here in Australia, and this week I have come across a new name on the Melbourne scene that I am excited to share with you, welcome to BTD's radar, SCAR.

SCAR, Melbourne's latest masked DJ, appeared on the scene back in May and judging by the quality of work he has already put out, it's clear the person behind the mask is not new to the scene.

His latest remix sees him recreate Skrillex's classic track 'Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites'. So how does it compare to the original? Let’s see!

When the track starts, it boasts a strong underground feel with hints of minimal before you get the taste of that classic opening to the original Skrillex track. The track progresses, highlighting the hints of the original before building to the explosion of heavy deep synths that transform the track into a mix of an electro house cross minimal delight. With hard baselines and sharp build-ups, this is one track that has been taken from what was a dubstep weapon into a recreation of that very deep underground Melbourne sound.

SCAR boasts a super unique mask and creates a sound that he calls his own genre. Listening to his other tracks they all have this very cryptic, dark sound to them that I am super intrigued to see more of as time progresses. I would almost say that there are links to Lockdown in what he is creating.

So how does this new kid on the block stack up against others creating this deep Melbourne sound? My thoughts are that he has come out swinging and will go far! I am sure this won't be the last you see of SCAR on Behind The Decks!

I would love to know what you think to, drop me a comment and let me know.
