Last week we witnessed history with Tomorrowland hosting its first-ever virtual festival. With Tomorrowland 2020 in Belgium cancelled as people are confined to their homes and travel bans made it impossible, this would be a Tomorrowland that will now go down in history.
In true Tomorrowland style, no stone was left unturned with epic production, suspense trailers and even party packs that featured the famous Tomorrowland bracelets.
Now the best part of all was that the People of Tomorrow proved it didn’t matter where you were watching from, that we were all united through music. From glitter, face gems, costumes, lasers, bars, Dreamville setups, people around the world really showed that the spirit of Tomorrowland was truly alive, and for me, I made sure that I played along. Dressing in my festival gear just like I was back on Boom to make the special event.
So how did the festival stack up? Find out below what I thought about the virtual festival!
The MVP set:
This has to go to our Aussie legend MaRLo. Each time I see him play he just keeps getting better and better. The past year is showing that he is just not a Trance god anymore, but now crossing into harder styles and I LOVE IT! His set took me on such a journey, one that had it all.
Expected more set:
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Don’t get me wrong I love all that they bring, it was just another predictable set of bangers. I enjoyed the set but was hoping for a little more.
Favourite stage of the festival:
The Cave - That place was insane, and if it was meant to be the rave cave it has been taken to a new level. The hanging crystals from the roof, the fire beside the stage, the burning embers floating. I loved everything about this stage.
New Discovery Artist:
B Jones, her set was so good. I hadn’t heard of her before or seen her perform and it was incredible. Her set had it all and being on Elixir was something special. Do yourself a favour and make sure you watch her set.
Highlights from the festival:
Eric Prydz [CELL.], being the only stage that was created just for his show it was just WOW.
I loved being able to explore the island and the whole concept of the island.
David Guetta - this past year I am loving the direction he is taking and the future rave sound he is bringing so that for me was a plus.
Seeing flags in the crowd was a huge thing, even saw an Aussie one that made me smile.
Not having to run from Freedom to Mainstage or wait for lines at the bar.
Room for improvement:
Information about how to access the stages better prior to the festival, being about to make yourself part of the crowd would be sick like a customer avatar so you could dance with friends all around the world.
So what are my final thoughts on the festival overall? Well with the amount of time that Tomorrowland had to create the world I was blown away. Seeing the mainstage for the first time brought me to tears and it was so clear that so much love and passion had gone into this world, just like it does every year in Boom. The fact that many who may not have even been able to experience this incredible place got the chance to take part in the magic of Tomorrowland made me so happy. I hope this is a concept that Tomorrowland continues, as sharing this with everyone who may not have ever been able to experience it is something that is very special. The effects were insane, the fact there were fireworks made you feel like you were there, people dancing and hands raised, “hey hos” and the detail in the stages made it all the more special for me.
Overall I would say well done to the team for bringing to life something that we could all share in, with so limited time to do so. Now, let’s hope that next year the world is in a better place and we can meet on the Aussie Hill in Boom once more!
