Weekend 2 not only served up some extremely good sets, it also showed us just how extreme the Belgian weather can be!
For the first time in my experience with Tomorrowland, dreamville was opened up 3 hours early because of the impending hottest day in Belgian history. Even at 9:30am It was already well above 30 degrees! By the time everyone had settled in and set up their tent it was already nudging 40 degrees which eventually ended up with a top of 41 for the day at around 3pm! But aside from that the gathering was awesome.
The previous week had some not so “Surprise” acts but weekend 2 was completely different. The first surprise act was none other than Netsky who played an incredible set. The first big surprise was when Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano walked out on stage, I think we were all expecting Afrojack so this was quite enjoyable! There was a lot of suspense for the closing surprise, murmurs in the crowd of “can't wait to see Afrojack” started to circulate, but then none other than W&W walk out and play the most amazing set at the gathering ever! The place was truly jumping and for once we were treated to an actual surprise.
Day 1
Started with more hot weather, which for us Aussies wasn’t too bad! Hardstyle made a return to the main stage with Mark with a K but the set of the day belonged to Alesso. I'm not usually a fan because he always seemed disinterested, but he honestly had the mainstage going crazy! He looked like he was really enjoying himself and the crowd was vibing off that!
Day 2
Saw the sky’s open up, was meant to be rain for 3 hours, turned into 28 hours straight but as much as this was annoying, we were at Tomorrowland and nothing would stop the party. Fisher was the first amazing set of the day gracing the mainstage for the first time with a heavy aussie contingent in front of him. Following him was one of the sets of the weekend with the huge energy of Vini Vici! Their typical up tempo set had everyone and their ponchos rocking. I managed to catch Solomun later in the night which really opened my eyes to how good techno can be. Other than that, the rain put a damper on things most of the day as it didn’t go away but still enjoyable!
Day 3
the skies cleared up just as everyone was shuffling into the festival but the cool temperature remained with many (including myself) sporting a jacket. The mainstage by its standards wasn’t the best, so I ventured around to the other stages and got to check out some of the restaurant. Mesa and Brasa were amazing meals and I highly recommend anyone who attends next year to give the food a try. For 30 euros, its great value. On the music side of the things it was a great day for Hardstyle with some huge names playing at Q dance, including sub zero project and the highlight of the day Warface!
To finish the night Instead of going to the mainstage I went to Atmosphere to watch Adam Beyer, and he didn’t disappoint! That tent was cooking to say the least and was one of the highlight sets of the weekend. I also got to catch the end of Chris Lake set to finish the night.
From all reports Armin’s 15 year anniversary set was amazing and 3 are legend closing was equally as good!
Overall the weekend as always was a great time. This was my 7th weekend and besides the weather I still had a great time. Obviously the rain was a bit annoying but at the end of the day you have to remember you are at Tomorrowland and it is the best festival in the world. A bit of rain shouldn’t be your excuse to not enjoy yourself.
Till next year Tomorrowland
