These may be troubled times that we are facing all around the world but what’s more infectious than any virus, is the feeling of joy you get when you hear a new track from some of your favourite Trance artists. Well, over the last couple of weeks we have been truly blessed with releases from arguably the biggest names in Trance, making my iso-life just a little bit more bearable. Grab one of your quarantine snacks and put your headphones on, as I give you a round-up of the latest Trance releases.
Bittersweet & Blue (Club Mix)
Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford
The dulcet tones of Richard Bedford are not unfamiliar to many discerning fans of Above & Beyond (A&B), having previously laid vocals on iconic A&B tracks. On ‘Bittersweet & Blue’, the familiarity of Bedford’s voice as he begins with “I’ve got a photograph of you, kept in a box of memories…”, provides a sense of nostalgia, a familiar warmth you often get with many A&B tracks. As the track melodically progresses, we are hit with a breakdown of haunting shiny synths, with Bedford passionately singing, “This is your life, dreams can come true. But like your memories of me, they’ll be bittersweet and blue”. This is such a melancholic prelude to what is a strong, driving beat that the track ends on.

Leka
Armin Van Buuren, Super8 & Tab
Armin Van Buuren (AVB) is teasing his fans worldwide with a track each week from the upcoming ‘A State of Trance 2020’ album mix, the seventeenth edition in the A State of Trance series. In the first track to be released, we see AVB collaborate with Finland based duo, Super8 & Tab. This is an absolute banger of a track and from the get-go we are hit with thumping chords, equal parts Trance underscored with Big Room, and all held together with Armin’s iconic melody. It’s a shame we won’t be able to hear this track being played at a festival or club for a while, but when we do, it will certainly get your feet moving and your hands up in the air.

This I Vow
Armin Van Buuren, MaRLo ft. Mila Josef
There is always room for more Armin in our lives and lucky for us, AVB just released another track called ‘This I Vow’. This time the King of Trance has enlisted homegrown hero, MaRLo, and on vocal duties, Mila Josef. There is some serious synergy between all three collaborators on ‘This I Vow’. We have Armin’s sense of melody and Trance grandeur, mixed with elements of MaRLo’s ‘Tech Energy’ power and complemented perfectly by Mila’s angelic voice. What they have produced is an emotionally charged powerhouse track sure to please many Trance lovers.

Only a Heartbeat Away
Giuseppe Ottaviani feat. Tricia McTeague
When I hear that Giuseppe Ottaviani (GO) has released a new track, my heart skips a beat and I rejoice. This is because GO has never disappointed me. GO is a pure Trance Maestro, who knows how to expertly compose a trance track, a modern-day Trance Beethoven, if you will. On ‘Only a Heartbeat Away’, the emotive and pretty vocals of Tricia McTeague intertwine masterfully with GO’s composition of lush breakdowns and driving chord progression. What we are left with is a beautifully uplifting pure Trance sound, exactly what I expected from the master.

First Contact
Paul Van Dyk, Kinetica
Having graced our shores in February with a closing set at Transmission 2020, Paul Van Dyk (PVD) is back with a beautiful track, ‘First Contact’, from his hotly anticipated tenth artist album, ‘Guiding Light’. ‘First Contact’ sees PVD collaborate with Kinetica (Dee Henry), a Belfast based producer who PVD recently signed to VANDIT’s Next Generation Imprint. Kinetica has been making a name for himself with his brand of high energy, uplifting Trance. And ‘First Contact’ is exactly that, an uplifting melodic track, elevating the listener to a crescendo of euphoria, a sound and feeling, that PVD has been successfully producing for over 20 years. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for us with the release of ‘Guiding Light’.

Your Mind
Cosmic Gate
If you’ve seen any recent festival or club sets from Cosmic Gate you might have heard this track being dropped. If you are still unsure, the first bit of drawn out vocal, “Something for your mind, your body and your soul”, should jog your memory. The track builds progressively, with repeating vocals and the recognizable Cosmic Gate sound. The breakdown near the middle of the track leads into an all-out exhilarating aural assault. It’s a banger, not the most sophisticated of words to describe a track, but when it bangs, IT BANGS!
