When I think of Aussie DJs, Melbourne's very own Will Sparks is one name that instantly comes to mind. An iconic DJ/producer who has done incredibly well paving the way for the Australian music scene. Having been a fan of his for some time now, it brings me such delight when he releases music and this time not only did we get the music, we also got the launch of his brand new record label, CLUBWRK.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Sparks has graced us with a remake of Ryan Riback and John Baptiste's 2011 hit track, ‘Kids These Days’, and for those playing along at home, I can tell you it is a WINNER!
The high-energy track begins with hard-hitting lyrics that shed light on a special perspective of how rave culture has come to be. For this track, Sparks has added his own vocals over the reworked production. The lyrics in the track ironically complain about kids these days who listen to techno, while the track highlights heavy techno bass playing under the lyrics. Throughout the track, there is this hard continuous bass line that just goes straight through you. The track sees Sparks turn this track into a blend of heavy, deep techno with a hint of the Spark’s signature bounce sound we have grown to expect from him. As it progresses you get sharp loops, strong build-ups and these all join together to explode into continuous filthy drops.
So the verdict on this new track and the new label, hmm well I would have to say… I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. It was just the thing I needed to kick start my weekend and get my a** moving.
Now for the fun part, getting to watch the next lot of track releases on the label. I have a few ideas as to who we might see but would love to hear your predictions?
